Closing Out 2024

This year has been full of highs and lows. I choose to focus on the positive, so I’ve highlighted a good portion of my research when sharing “author news” on my blog, in my newsletter, and on my social media accounts.

My most often-used cards.

But I haven’t disclosed everything. Though my focus has shifted between several topics, my research has continued into the holiday season. New contacts, museum collection viewings, archive hours, interviewing people, hunting the Local History Library, and gathering more information. Some of what I’m coming across I’m not sure how it will fit into any certain project, but it’s keeping me inspired.

A week ago was the annual Historic Mobile Preservation Society’s Holiday Homes Tour. Out of the five stops on the tour, two were previous settings for my stories–one major and one minor.

Government Street Methodist Church at Government and Broad is the congregation Christina (Ethelwynne’s friend) attended in
TANGLED DISCOVERIES.
The Kate Sheppard House B&B, used as the Eastons’ family house in
The Possession Chronicles.

I’m considering using one of the other three houses in a future project, so I’m keeping it private right now. Things are still melding with all this new information I’m gathering.

As mentioned in my previous post, I’m prepping a blog series I’m showcasing in 2025. Twice a month, I’ll be posting about some of the Progressive Era places and events I’ve featured in my fiction, complete with historic photos–many of which aren’t often shared. Be sure you subscribe to my blog so the posts arrive in your email. (Click over to a blog post, like the one above or this one, and scroll to the bottom of the page. A small box will appear in the bottom right corner with a few options. Look for “Subscribe.”)

One more thing of note is that the cover reveal for Betrayal: Washington Square Secrets 4 will happen in my January newsletter. Be sure you’re signed up for that as well.

The blog and newsletter will highlight different things, and in total will be no more than three emails a month. That’s not much considering I often get two-three emails a day from the same online sites/shops (and I’ve unsubscribed to several companies in recent weeks because of the obnoxious number of mailings.)

For now, enjoy your Christmas or other holiday celebrations. I look forward to sharing new information with you in 2025.

P.S. In case you missed it, the Washington Square Secrets books were featured in Mobile Bay Monthly’s Gift Guide in the December 2024 issue. The awesome staff at The Haunted Book Shop were kind enough to recommend them as the books are heavily populated with local places and historical tidbits.
