For me, author events tend to come in clumps. February was my last busy time, but this month has it topped with events.
Starting things off, I’ll be presenting “What is Southern Gothic?” at Azalea Creative Con on Saturday, June 14, at 11am. It’s a ticketed event, so you need to register for ACC or purchase a pass at the door to attend, but it is affordable compared to many other cons. If you’re in the area and want something different to do downtown that’s indoors/air-conditioned, give Azalea City Con a try for one or both days. Bonus: it’s just a block away from The Haunted Book Shop.

On June 22, I’ll be “In Conversation” with Captain Billie Rowland at The Haunted Book Shop beginning at 4pm. I’ll be interviewing Cpt. Rowland about the history of the Mobile Police Department, why he wrote the book, and other things. We’ll also be discussing how we have collaborated with research and why I had him read the Loyalty and Betrayal manuscripts for MPD accuracy before publication.

Since the HBS event is only two days before the release of Betrayal: Washington Square Secrets 4, attendees will be able to purchase my new book early! Come listen to Cpt. Rowland and go home with an early copy of Betrayal, plus a signed copy of Unbroken Service: A History of the Mobile Police Department, if you haven’t bought one already.

To finish the busy month, I’ll be at the ArtCentriCity event in Silverhill, Alabama, on June 28. These art gatherings are hosted by the indie band analog missionary and are built around music, but visual artists and more are on hand to display their projects and mingle with other creatives. Here’s a picture from the May 2025 concert.

Besides having my books on display in the art area, I’ll be taking a few minutes before the concert begins to talk about my newest release. This will be my second time “opening” for analog missionary. Last year, I spoke about how I use music to fuel my writing. It’s a laidback, welcoming, and vibey experience for all ages. It’s free to attend, but there are tips jars out to support the hosts. Also, some of the art/music/etc. are for sale, but there is no pressure from anyone to spend money. Find more information here.
If you are in the area, I hope you can attend at least one of my June events.

P.S. Stay tuned later this month for a brand new blog series to finish out 2025. (“Fragments Observed: Life During Mobile’s Progressive Era” was a ten-part blog series in partnership with Historic Mobile Preservation Society that ran twice a month on my website between January and May 2025. Be sure to check out the informative posts if you missed them.)
