Music and Discernment

The two are not publicly related, yet.

If you’ve followed my journey for any length of time, chances are you’ve heard me talk about music. I love music. I listen to a wide variety and use it to help set the mood when writing. In my private collection of over six thousand songs, I have playlists for different projects and even an “Editing Tunes” playlist filled with moody instrumentals because I can’t listen to songs with vocals while editing. After completing a project, I like to make a “soundtrack” for it. These are collections, typically of about a dozen songs, that I can listen to while driving or doing chores that help me keep the feelings of the characters fresh in my mind so I’m in the mood when I work edits on the manuscript.

Over the weekend, I created public playlists–my soundtracks–for most of my books on Youtube. There are music video lists for eleven novels and one short story. What’s missing? Mosaic of Seduction, Tangled Discoveries, Severed Legacies, and Discernment. Upon completion of the first drafts those projects, I rolled over into the next writing/editing projects almost immediately. I didn’t have the downtime in between to merit the creation of the soundtracks for my own use. But that doesn’t mean they won’t come in the future. Those books each have “mood music” playlists that I listened to while writing that are hundreds of songs long. I just need to take the time to cull those lists into soundtracks.

So yes, I do have a Youtube channel. Besides my playlists, there is one public video. It’s not of me, but something I uploaded for my husband years ago that he always shared by direct link. During the changes the site made last year, it needed to be made public for him to be able to keep sharing it. That’s how it ended up on my channel–if anyone wants to watch my husband eat a Carolina Reaper pepper. (Fortunately, all his other spicy food challenges are on his own account.)

Watch for new content from me in the future. If you enjoy videos/interviews, you might want to subscribe. I plan to add a few Q&A and book explanation videos for starters.

Now for the Discernment news. Tomorrow (July 18th) through Thursday (July 20th) I’m hosting an online discussion all about book one in the Washington Square Secrets series. It is hosted on an event page for my private reader’s group on Facebook. If you are interested in participating, join Dalby’s Darklings.

If you aren’t on Facebook, I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about Discernment or any of my other books/stories via blog, social media, or email. Find my information on my CONTACT page or comment below.

And in upcoming news, the freshest draft of Alliance: Washington Square Secrets 2 is with the editor and the cover artist is working on a watercolor for it. The release date is December 5, 2023. The book is set in the winter of 1912-1913, so it will make a great seasonal read, complete with Christmas and New Year’s Eve scenes.

    1. She’s working the same elements as DISCERNMENT so the covers will be cohesive with the series. The preview she shared with me last week was awesome.
